Each year, Mississippi State Hospital provides about 1,600 Mississippians with quality psychiatric care. The array of psychiatric services provided at MSH include child & adolescent psychiatric services, adult acute psychiatric services, continued treatment psychiatric services, forensic psychiatric services, and addiction services. Additionally, MSH's campus houses community nursing homes, an inpatient medical-surgical hospital, laboratory/radiology department, and pharmacy.
To support the recovery model of care, patients at MSH are engaged in tailored therapeutic programming including psychosocial, educational, and rehabilitative treatment activities provided by nursing, psychology, social services, and recreation therapy. Ambulatory services including neurology, ECT, and occupational/physical therapy are also provided.
Due to the wide variety of services, MSH provides a rich learning environment where psychiatry residents will have the unique opportunity to care not only for patients with common psychiatric disorders but also patients with rare and unique psychiatric disorders that most residents will only read about. With a flexible drug formulary, residents will have the opportunity to utilize the latest medications available. To enhance a varied training experience, the Mississippi State Hospital Residency program has relationships with local community mental health centers and medical hospitals.
