Leave

Personal Leave

Residents begin to earn and accumulate personal leave on the first working day of each month the resident works or receives paid leave. Personal leave is available for the resident’s use on the first day of the month after the leave is earned. There is no limit to the accumulation of personal leave.

Medical Leave

Residents begin to earn and accumulate Major Medical Leave on the first working day of each month the resident works or receives paid leave. The leave is available for the resident’s use the first day of the month after the leave is earned. There is no maximum limit to Major Medical Leave accumulation. All unused Major Medical Leave will be counted as creditable service for the purposes of the retirement system.

Retirement

As employees of the Mississippi State Hospital, residents will be enrolled in the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS).    

Health Insurance

Residents are eligible to enroll in the state employees' health insurance. A House Officer agrees to maintain one of these plans or another plan with equal or better benefits.
